This is the Prince Albert Memorial. It is just outside the Kensington Palace gates in London and across from Royal Albert Hall. Some people find it gaudy, but personally I love it! It speaks to me of a woman’s love for her husband, gone too soon, and it honors his love of the arts and sciences.
The Albert Memorial features prominently in my first novel, Pedestal, where pop star Chloe takes it as inspiration for her next elaborate and over-the-top tour. Main character, Edwin, isn’t impressed with her idea, and the argument that ensues is captured on video by a passing fan and blasted all over the internet. It’s a fun memory for me, and one that comes up again in the Pedestal sequel I’m currently working on!
